My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation here today to talk about how we can screw up prayer and the answer is we can’t, but it’s amazing to me over all the decades that I’ve been a minister, how many people have talked to me about how they’re so afraid that they’re going to screw up the prayers. That they’re going to say something wrong or it’s going to come out wrong or it’s not going to be right or it’s not going to be whatever, because we’re talking to God and I don’t want to … I get nervous and I whatever. Maybe we get to a point where we can talk to him in private or where nobody else can hear us or just think about it, but actually pray out loud in front of other people, we’d rather take a hot poker to the eye than to do anything like that. The truth of the matter is that yeah, he’s God our father, who already knows what we’re thinking, who already is engaged with us and he wants us to talk with him.

In Matthew chapter seven, we are told about how it’s okay to pray, that we can’t screw it up. We can’t drop the ball. We can’t say it wrong, because he knows the intent of our heart. He knows what we’re trying to say. He understands how we are trying to engage with him. He just wants us to trust him, include him and believe in him.
