Hi there. My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation talking about spiritual growth today and asking about whether you want a priest or a judge. In John chapter 8, we’re told an incredible story about the adulterous woman. This was a situation where the Jewish leaders, trying to trap Jesus, actually set up a woman who was actually taken from the bed as she was having intercourse with another man, brought through the streets to Jesus and thrown at his feet and put Jesus in the position of saying she was caught in adultery. What are you supposed to do? Kill her or not?

Now Jesus famously refused to answer and refused to play the game and refused to get into politics with them. But here’s my question to you. Whenever you do something wrong in the eyes of God, are you looking for a high priest who’s loving and supporting and sympathetic and empathetic and on your side? Are you looking for a judge for condemnation? Most of us are looking for that high priest to understand our side of the story, but when we find somebody else in trouble, we look for God to be the judge. We want justice. We want things to be done right. We want things to be equaled out, but they want a high priest also.

That’s why we have the great thing called the grace of God. You and I both have it and thank God for it. My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation. You can go online to find out more about us at tvcleadership.com.
