Hi there. My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation here today to talk about being a human being versus a human doing. One of the biggest mistakes and problems and fights that I have in my personal life is the conquest between personal human being and human doing, because I defacto go to human doing. There’s work to do, got work to do, got things to accomplish, got stuff to get done, got to be working on something instead of just being a human doing.
What happens a lot of times is one of those great, incredible weapons that we have to deal with stress and problems in our life, big problems that we don’t want to face, we can go to work because nobody in our society says that we shouldn’t go to work. Shouldn’t do that, who’s going to tell you not to work hard? If I’m doing that instead of dealing with the emotional pain or trauma or stuff I’m dealing with, if I’m working instead of dealing with the major issues of my life this has become my crutch. It did for me for decades.
I want to encourage you to understand there’s a big difference between human being and human doing. As long as we’re a human doing we’re robbing ourself of enjoying life as a human being. Just be. It’s okay to be you. It’s okay to enjoy your life. It’s okay to be who you are, to be just the human being.
