Hi, I’m Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation. One of the things that I’ve been told that I do pretty well, actually what I do very well is that I listen. I was actually told one day that I actively listen, and I really like that. The reason I say that to you is not to say, “Well, look at me,” but to say to you, “How do people see you and how you listen to them?” It is so important for us to be quiet and hear what the other person has to say. It’s hard to do especially if you have a demonstrative personality like I do, because, “Oh my gosh,” you said something that I want to respond and I’m very upset, and I’m very passionate. I want to respond and say whatever, but it so important to step and let the other person talk because everyone of us wants to be heard.

That’s actually one of the problems in this country now, everybody wants to be heard and they think that their opinion is worth the same as everybody else’s. Sometimes it’s not because I don’t understand what’s going on. I need to be able to listen so that I can hear what’s being said, so I can learn and develop. It is so important to not listen so I can respond, but so I can listen to hear what’s being said. My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation.
