Hi there, my name is Jeff Arthur with the Values Conversation. To talk to you about a quote from General Colin Powell. He says, “great leaders are almost always great simplifies who can cut through argument, debate, and doubt to offer a solution everyone else can understand.” He is exactly right. I don’t know about you, but there’s so many times as a leader I get called into stuff that I wasn’t prepared or planning on being called in on. I am not just talking about the fires and the crisis and the whatever else. One of the things that we as leaders must be able to do is see the big picture. Understand our people. Have an emotional intelligence to recognize what’s really going on with people and to be able to sit down and cut through all the stuff to find a simple solution that everyone understands and agrees with.

Maybe no one … Maybe you can’t get everyone on board. Maybe there’s been too many problems, or there’s been too many hurt feelings, or there’s been too many whatever. Part of the responsibilities as a leader, is to lead our people from crisis mode and problem mode to solution mode. To understand how to get past whatever it is that I am dealing with and facing with because a lot of people want to be victims. We can now move that to where people can be solution finders.
