Hi there, I’m Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation talking about how things don’t always work out the way we thought. I don’t know if you as a leader are like me, but I a lot of times will hit mile markers or road signs and I’ll sit back and start thinking and I’ll start reminiscing and I start thinking about how it was that we got here, and how things worked out and how the plan was this and that didn’t happen at all and etc, etc.

I was talking to one of my clients the other day, gentleman who owns his own company and it’s growing hundreds, I think 400% over the last couple of years. As he and I were talking, he said something I thought was incredible profound. He said, “You know, I guess we got here, this is where I wanted to be, but this is in no way the way I thought it was gonna work out to get here.” That is so right for leaders of our companies. We set the goals, we set the direction. This is the way we want to go and we think it’s gonna work out this way and so many times, it doesn’t.

I just want to remind you today as the leader of your team, or of your company, or of your group, or of your division, or of your department, continue to make the goals, but continue to understand things may not work out in the journey to get there like you had planned for it to, which is why you want to make sure you have the values underneath you to stand on and know who you are and where you are going. My name is Jeff Arthur, with The Values Conversation, you can find out more about us online at tvcleadership.com.
