Hi there my name is Jeff Arthur with a values conversation. Here to talk to you about a first part of a two part video series I’m gonna do here about developing the leaders around you John Maxwell and his book, developing the leaders around you talks about some non negotiable characteristics or qualities that every leader needs to have and if you’re a leader hiring somebody or if you’re a leader trying to lead other people these are some qualities that again, he says are non negotiable. They got to be there.
They include, this is not exclusive at all, but they include great people skills, they include positive attitude, they include being able to be influential and they include having great character as just a simple human being. Here’s the thing, I suspect that if you look back over the different relationships you’ve had at work. And you look back over the relationships you’ve had that maybe didn’t go so well with co workers, I’m willing to bet you any amount of money, marbles, or chalk, whatever you’ve got in your pocket, that whenever there was a problem, it was because those other people were not developing, did not have to begin with, these basic qualities that every leader needs to have. Again, I repeat. Either people have them or they don’t. They may have differing degrees of them. People may be really good, may have strong character, but they need to work on their people skills, that’s okay. But if they don’t have it to begin with, there’s always going to be problems.
And whenever we’re hiring people, we want to be careful as leaders not to start making excuses whenever we see that people don’t have these basic qualities that every leader must have. Don’t make excuses. And don’t give people the benefit of the doubt whenever it’s not there to begin with. My name is Jeff Arthur with the values conversation.
