My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation, here to talk about how people are looking for leadership.

There’s a movie out there that I love: Michael J. Fox, Michael Douglas, The American President. Great movie. But there’s a point in time in that movie where Michael Douglas who is the president, his character and Michael J. Fox, one of his top advisers, where they’re sparring back and forth and Michael J. Fox says something incredible. He says, “People are looking for leadership. They’re looking for leadership.” He says, “They’ll crawl through the desert, if they have to, to find it.”

I want to encourage you to understand that if you’re a leader in your company, if you’re in a position of authority in your company, people are looking to you, yes, you. Right or wrong, you, no, I mean you, they’re looking to you to lead them. They’re looking for somebody to take charge, to lead them, the company, the direction, the focus, to set the example, all those things and they’ll crawl through the desert for it.

People are begging for leadership: true, authentic, caring ‘I want to be a part of what you’re doing’ leadership. They’re looking for that from you. They’re looking to you for that. Do you supply real leadership for your people? If not, then there’s no way the company you’re involved in is ever going to reach its maximum potential.
