Hi, there. I’m Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation. I want to encourage you as leaders today to think about something that maybe you haven’t thought about a lot. You may hear this term more and more used in our world today. It’s Emotional Intelligence. It is so important as a leader, as an owner, as a small business owner, whatever your role is in the leadership form of your company, to have emotional intelligence. To understand what whenever your people come in, while you may want them to leave it at the door, the argument they had with their teenage child is still with them. The problem they had in their marriage is still with them. They’re problem they’re having with their mother or father and their health issues are still with them. You have to have emotional intelligence to recognize what’s going on with them, how to help them, how to support them and how to get the most out of them as they’re struggling.

It is also important as the leader to have the emotional intelligence about yourself to realize what it is that triggers you. What is it that you struggle with? What’s going on in your life that’s affecting you that you don’t want to admit or don’t recognize or don’t want to talk about? Nothing demoralizes a team more than to be a leader that is out of town with your own emotions and don’t realize how you’re coming across to your team. My name is Jeff Arthur, with the Values Conversation. You can find us online, our website at TVCleadership.com.
