Hi there. My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation here to talk to us today about God is a God of covenants. What I mean by that is a lot of times we’ve had people in our lives maybe say they’re going to do something and don’t always do it, or maybe you’re like me where I say I’m going to do something with the best of intentions and sometimes I don’t always follow through with that even though I was trying, even though I wanted to, but I look like a liar, I look like I let somebody down, or I didn’t quite do what I thought I was going to be able to.

A lot of times, whether we’re the person who has somebody lie to us or whether we’re the person who meant to do the right thing and it just didn’t work out like that, we a lot of times put either one of those on God. Is God going to follow through? Is God going to do what he said he was going to do? Is God going to with the best of intentions, but it just didn’t work out that way? That’s not who God is.

He’s not a God of promises. He’s a God of covenants, which is much deeper than a promise. He says to us here’s what he’s going to do and he ratifies that, or he seals it, every time. With God, he seals it in the life-giving blood. In the Old Testament, those promises were set, or those covenants were set, in blood of the animals. In the new covenant, in the New Testament that’s set in the blood of Christ. We can look throughout the New/Old Testament, throughout the Bible and see where he made those promises and made those covenants and understand his word is his bond and they will not ever fail.
