Hi, there. My name is Jeff Arthur with a Values Conversation. Here today talking about spiritual growth and family dysfunction.

In Genesis chapter 37, we are told the story about Joseph and his family. Actually, a good chunk of Genesis is about Joseph but what I want to focus on is his family at home. His dad loved all his children but his dad made a huge parental mistake. He played favorites. Joseph was the favorite. Everybody knew it and it led to such incredible family dysfunction that, given the opportunity, his family, his brothers, actually took him, put him in a pit, contemplated killing him and eventually sold him into slavery.

I don’t know about you, but my family has great dysfunction. In fact, I think my family put the “fun” in dysfunction and yet, none of my brothers ever put me in a pit and then talked about killing me and then figured out how they could sell me.

As a servant of Jesus Christ, as a servant of God, make sure you understand the value of everybody. Recognize as a parent, or as an aunt or an uncle or some influential person in the life of a child, they all have value, they all have merit. We’re all children of God.
