Spiritual – 03 – John’s staying power – Jeff Arthur – The Values Conversation

When Jesus was arrested in the Garden, we’re told that the disciples scattered and that the rest of that night is a free-for-all. We’re told about how John and Peter didn’t go to the trials and Peter denies Jesus three times and there’s all kinds of struggles and problems and all kinds of things happening. Eventually, once Jesus is arrested on Friday, he’s actually put on the cross on Sunday.

While there, we are told about this from John chapter 19 verse 26 and 27. “When Jesus, on the cross, saw his mother there and a discipline whom he loved,” that means John, the writer, “Standing nearby he said to her, ‘Woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on this disciple took her into his house.” Jesus on the cross, still taking care of family business. He looks at his mom and motions to John and says, “Here is your son. John, here’s mom. Take care of her.” What an incredible, wonderful, [inaudible 00:01:00] opportunity to look after the mother of the Son of God. Yet, the only reason he had that opportunity and blessing was because he was there. Nobody else was.
