My name is Jeff Arthur with a Values Conversation, here to talk to you today about personal growth and problems.

I don’t know about you. Actually, I do because I coach a lot of you out there and I figure that those of you that I don’t coach are like a lot of people I do coach. That is this: we try new things and they fall flat on our face. We try something new, we’re going to try a different direction, we’re going to do something different and we run into problems instantly. Maybe right out of the gate, maybe just a few miles down the road, maybe just a few steps on down the journey. We hit a problem and it throws us. We can’t believe it. “I can’t believe this is happening. This is so unexpected. I don’t know what to do.”

My thought for you today is, there’s no reason not expect the problems because they’re going to be there. If we’re going to try to grow, if we’re going to try to become something more, if we’re going to try to go a different direction, we’re going to fail. It’s going to be a problem. There’s going to be something that’s going to fly apart, jump in our way, blow up in our face. Something’s going to happen. There’s no reason to not expect it and be prepared for it whenever it comes, know and have the attitude and effort and the focus to say, “You know what? I expected this, not this particular problem but I expected something to go sideways on me. I’m ready for the challenge. I know we can take care of this.”

Don’t be surprised when things don’t work out. Keep pushing anyway.
