Hi there. My name is Jeff Arthur with The Values Conversation, talking to you today about perfection and leadership. Most of the time as leaders, while we want to do the right thing all the time, most of the time I find working with executives, we can get caught up in an analysis-paralysis because we’re afraid to pull the trigger. A lot of times we’re waiting for things to fall into place just exactly right before we go ahead and start making movement.

I want to encourage you today as a leader that while there is a lot to be said about making sure that I’m gathering the information I need, and understanding what the cost is going to be, and understanding what the change is I’m going to have to deal with, doing all those things, bringing it all together. While there’s a lot to be said about making sure what I’m doing before I pull the trigger, there’s also a lot to be said about not allowing things to just stay status quo. If I need to make a change, make a change. Don’t worry about everything being perfect before I start moving forward. Nothing is ever going to be perfect. While we know that in theory, we keep applying it to our regular work life thinking that, “You know what? This time I need to make sure things are exactly right before we move forward because I looked like a fool the last time.” It’s okay. Pull the trigger. Count the cost, understand what needs to be done, but then go ahead and do it.
