Hi there, my name is Jeff Arthur with the Values Conversation, here to talk about proper training of your employees.

I can’t tell you how many companies I’ve been involved with, are involved with, and I can’t tell you how many times in those different companies I see and hear the same thing over and over again. The disconnect between what the employees are doing, and what their training was supposed to tell them.

And a lot of times, once you start digging in a little bit, all of a sudden you begin to realize, the people weren’t trained. The employees weren’t properly trained. Or they were trained and told, “Here’s what the training manual says, here’s what the training videos say, but here’s what the system really is. If you want to know how to really work the system, you gotta understand this.”

“Well, what about my training?”

“Sign the paper that says you were trained, but this is what you’d better do if you want to get your job.”

And the leader is very happily skipping along through the tulips, not having a clue that the training is so horrific and it’s so inferior that our employees, our associates, they don’t actually know what is expected or what they’re supposed to do.

Now, the leader does. “You’re supposed to do this.” “Well, that wasn’t what I was trained to do.”

“Well, you’re supposed to do this.”

“Well, that’s not the best way the system is set up.”

“Well, you’re supposed to do this.” “Well, that doesn’t really work that way.”

Do you know for a fact that your employees and associates have been trained properly? Because if not, there’s no foundation for their job to build on. Are you training your people correctly? Not what you think, what they think.
